Defendants in the Sean Taylor murder spared possibility of death penalty
Eric Rivera, 18; Venjah Hunte, 20; Charles Wardlow, 18; and Jason Mitchell, 20 have been spared the possibility of the death penalty when the Sean Taylor murder case goes to trial in August.
What seems to be an unfair decision is complicated by the fact that suspect Rivera is the alleged shooter and was 17 when the crime was committed. In Florida, minors are ineligible for the death penalty. The prosecution will seek life for each of the defendants.
Sean Taylor, University of Miami alum, was a Pro Bowl player with the Washington Redskins when he was murdered on November 26, 2007 in his Palmetto Bay home. His girlfriend and infant daughter were present when the murder was committed but were not harmed.
