I finally located a USB cord to transfer photos from my camera to the computer. One thing is certain, I have way too many power cords and cables to which item I have no clue they belong. Anyhoo, here are some photos of the fabulous team of volunteers and campaign staff at the Obama-Biden campaign office in Liberty City. YES, WE DID!

The City of Weston wants to break away from the Broward County school district and form its own district to have more control over the schools in their area. Weston folks are not happy that schools promised to relieve overcrowding in their area will likely not be built due to a projected decrease in county school enrollment within the next five years.
All of the nine schools in Weston are graded "A" and have been since Florida implemented the school grading system. City officials see this annexation as an attraction to lure more potential property owners, businesses, etc. to Weston.
Of course, the lack of diversity issue has been raised by opponents. Keep an eye on this situation as other areas could follow suit.

Remember the hoopla surrounding the Martin Luther King and Barack Obama mural on the overpass of I-95 at 62nd street? How soon can the artist repaint the likeness of President-Elect Barack Obama? The original mural was prophetic and equally significant for the community. The white outline made an even more powerful statement than the actual likeness. Now that the election is over, it’s time to fill in the outline with our next POTUS.

As I am able to get pictures from my cameras, I’ll share a bit more on my volunteer experience during the Obama-Biden campaign. It sure feels good to have that behind us, doesn’t it?
I have to tell you that it still feels a bit weird not stopping by the office. Here’s a photo of my last evening there. It’s Karen Andre saying thanks by presenting an Obama poster to Otis Pitts. The poster was autographed by Obama supporter, film trailblazer and legend, Spike Lee during his visit to the area. Pitts was generous and very cooperative in allowing the campaign to use the office space. One would never know the space was only open for a month. Stay tuned to some big things from Ms. Andre.
On that same evening while packing up the place, I also had the opportunity to meet max Rameau in person. He’s an exceptionally bright young man and an asset to this community. I can’t forget Little Max who will be a heartbreaker when he’s older.
In addition to getting Mr. Obama elected POTUS, one lesson I learned is that there are some awesome folks in this community. I’ve met some real community servants and community organizers that are down for the collective --- not themselves. I hope to maintain and strengthen those bonds while building an army of community activists and servants that will truly effect change here in South Florida.
Getting off my soapbox now and working on other posts while I multi-task during this day. Please thank a veteran today. We owe the freedoms we enjoy today to the military service members who fought for this country and other countries.Peace out everyone. I’ll be back soon.

LOXAHATCHEE, FL -- A Loxahatchee resident is rattled after he says he came home Sunday evening to find his vehicle and home spray painted with racist graffiti and anti-Obama messages.
The homeowner, Kevius Hodges is an Obama/Biden supporter. Hodges says white supremacy messages were spray painted with an angry anti-Obama tone.
Local residents are outraged over the racist comments threatening violence. [More]

I am so glad I early voted last Thursday before going out of town. I'd put off the task due to volunteer duties at the Obama-Biden Campaign office. Time was running out so I toughed it out and got on line at the Caleb Center Library site. There were people everywhere and a lot of them either giving away campaign literature or selling something.
One of the first people I saw was my high school classmate Lutricia Shaw Grant who was doing exit polling with her son Jeremy. I hadn't seen Jeremy in years; he's such a handsome and intelligent young man.
Voters had to take a number and wait for their number to be called. I didn't understand why folks insisted on standing in line. I got my number and sat down near where the numbers were called. A gentleman gave water to voters.
I'm working on a project with one of my cousins that you'll read about later. She met me there and decided to stay and vote also.
When my number was called, I went in the library only to find out I had to wait some more. The scene appeared chaotic but there actually was a system being followed.
I don't like waiting on line but this opportunity gave me such a good feeling. I was number 841 and there were at least a hundred people behind me in line.
Actually getting the ballot and going to the very unprivate privacy booth was like a maze. The poll workers were pleasant from start to finish and kept the line moving. My voting actually took about an hour. I spent another half-hour talking with people I hadn't seen in a long time.
If you've voted, thank you! If you haven't voted, please make sure you understand what's on the ballot and how to mark the ballot properly. Ask questions of the workers; they are there to help you.

Congratulations to my Miami Central Rockets football team and coaching staff for an awesome win over the Miami Northwestern Bulls Friday night. I know there was some serious celebrating by some of my classmates at the alumni dance Saturday night. Anyhoo, back in my day, the Central football team beat Northwestern on the regular, (Am I right, DC?) so this latest win was expected. Yeah, it's been a while since we've beat them but this year was particularly sweet as Central moves on to a play-off spot.
Central put an end to Northwestern's 37-game winning streak with a coaching staff largely made-up of former Northwestern coaches. Unfortunately, the Bulls had to deal with that Easterling sex scandal in 2006 and the dismantling of the coaching staff. Then former Central coach, also former Northwestern coach Billy Rolle went back to Northwestern to assume head coach duties. There were mixed feelings about the decision but all involved, students and coaches from both schools showed heart.
No doubt, Central was primed for this win but Northwestern has nothing to feel bad about. It would be great if these two teams could meet again in the play-offs. Stay tuned.

I'm volunteering in the Liberty City Obama-Biden Office in Liberty City after a long ride from Tallahassee today. I met an interesting gentleman, Richard Charman, who produced the videos you see below. It is refreshing to know that some people in Miami are paying attention to what's happening politically on a local, national and international level.
As soon as I get the chance tonight, I'll post links to his other blogs. Got to get back to work. Knowledge is power.
