A huge rally is planned today at the School Board building to protest the millions in additional budget cuts public schools must make.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools has already taken $289 MM in cuts with another $89 MM anticipated this year. With education such an important role in producing a skilled work force and productive citizenry; the cuts to education are a precursor to the destruction of the right to education for all and the creation of a permanent underclass. It's just a matter of time.
Let's not mention increased crime incarceration rates and need for public assistance resources. Yes, cuts are needed but the assault on public education was obvious during this Special Session of the Legislature.
Kudos to the mothers in Doral, across from Ronald Reagan High School, for staging a hunger strike to bring attention to the gravity of the impact of the cuts to education.
Of course no one condones actions that cause harm to life and health but these women are effective in publicizing the situation.Stay tuned.
