Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez reassigned his chief of staff back to the police department with a huge pay cut and is reorganizing his staff but is that enough to fend off criticism and a recall effort.
Alvarez's now former chief of staff, Dennis Morales, was one of the police investigated for moonlighting on the job. Alvarez also defended huge increases for his inner circle of staff during a period of tremendous budgetary angst for the county which angered voters. Not to mention the Marlins Stadium deal Alvarez supported that has received negative publicity for reneging on jobs for locals.
Now, efforts to recall the mayor are gaining momentum with local labor unions jumping on board. Attaining enough signatures to put the recall question on the ballot is not easy but if the union member are serious about this it could happen. Stay tuned.
