By now you are aware that Jamal Parris, one of the four accusers in the Bishop Eddie Long sex scandal, was arrested on Miami Beach last Tuesday night for suspicion of selling marijuana and possession of a firearm. The passenger in the car, Jeremy Jouvanni Gordon, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Apparently, Parris was arrested without incident. The Florida Highway Patrolman stopped the driver of the white BMW 328i because of the temporary tag. The trooper said he smelled marijuana and it was all downhill after that for Parris.
In addition to the gun, Parris was in possession of 181 grams of marijuana, 50 clear zip lock baggies and $1,250 in cash --- all the appearance of a drug dealer. Not so said Parris, he purchased the vehicle with money from the Eddie Long settlement, had the gun for protection and is a registered student at Miami Dade College. Parris bonded out of jail.
Parris is the oldest of Long's accusers and served as his assistant. His passionate and seemingly sincere interview with Atlanta's FOX 5 senior I-Team reporter Dale Russell, about the lawsuit against Bishop Long, was significant in swinging momentum against the bishop.
Since Long chose to settle the case out of court, there is speculation about what was disclosed and the actual amount of the settlement. If the young men's allegations are true, the money they were awarded will not relieve the pain, shame and anger they profess to feel.
It certainly doesn't bode well for Parris to be caught up in this latest legal incident or accuser Anthony Boyd who is facing trial for the burglary of Long's office that brought the accusations to the limelight to have arrived in court in a chauffeur-driven Cadillac Escalade.
