There are mixed emotions in the community upon the release of the high school school grades. While there are no "F" schools for the first time, many parents are interested in opting their students out of the FCAT.
The calculation of the high school grade is complicated but basically the lowest achieving students didn't do well enough on the FCAT. Some schools missed higher letter grades by a few points. It's sad but those are rules Florida's education system has in place.
Parents are encouraged to attend a session on how to keep their kids from taking the FCAT Test without penalty. This session will be facilitated by Ceresta Smith, a local teacher active in the national campaign to eliminate the FCAT across the country.
