Vacant School Board Seat Issue Heats Up Again

Today's Miami Herald covers the vacant District 1 school board seat. Twenty people submitted applications.

Here is the list, in alphabetical order, of applicants so far to fill the District 1 seat on the Miami-Dade School Board previously held by Robert B. Ingram, 71, who died last month:

Victor T. Curry, Democrat, senior pastor, New Birth Baptist Church.

Cecil T. Daniels, Democrat, retired school principal.

Patrenia Dozier-Washington, Democrat, Miami-Dade Public Schools teacher.

Oliver G. Gilbert III, Democrat, attorney.

Wilbert T. Holloway, Democrat, state representative.

Erhabor Ighodaro, Democrat, chief of staff to the late Robert B. Ingram.

Ted Lyons, Republican, director of business, Contractors Resource Center.

Richard Marquess-Barry, Democrat, priest, St. Agnes Episcopal Church.

Dannie Perry McMillon, Democrat, administrative assistant, Urban League of Greater Miami.

Gordon Murray Sr., Democrat, attorney.

Dufirstson Neree, Republican, economist, Freedom Trust Co.

Anna M. Price, Democrat, chaplain, Florida Department of Corrections, and minister, Universal Truth Center.

Arlington Sands Jr., Republican, community liaison specialist, Miami-Dade schools.

Starex B. Smith, Democrat, assistant to the city manager, Opa-locka.

Abraham J. Thomas, Democrat, retired social service supervisor, Miami-Dade County.

Robert L. Thomas, Democrat, former region superintendent, Miami-Dade Public Schools.

Doris Denise Wallace, Independent, attorney, city of Miami.

David Williams Jr., Democrat, community relations director, Florida Family Partnership/Informed Families.

Larry T. Williams, party affiliation unavailable, self-employed financial planner.

James Barry Wright, Republican, chief of police, city of Opa-locka.

Now that's an interesting bunch. Governor Crist is scheduled to interview Curry, Williams, Gilbert, Daniels, Wright and Holloway this week. Will all applicants be interviewed or is this his short list?

The governor has been urged by many to fill Ingram's seat as soon as possible.

Oh yeah, The Herald also has an online poll. Cast your vote.
