DONNA E. NATALE PLANAS/HERALD FILE

Herbert E. Walker III, shown in this 2006 picture, resigned from the Miami-Dade state attorney's office Friday.

A prosecutor with the Miami-Dade state attorney's office, an intern and a secretary were fired, while another prosecutor resigned -- all within the past week in what officials said Wednesday were unrelated personnel matters. [Continue reading]

I would like to comment about Herbert E. Walker III and the real reason he resigned. Truth be told, Herb Walker was given the option to resign or be demoted for over half a dozen accusations of sexual harrassment on lower ranking female attorneys he was in charge of and State Attorney support staff. Each of the brave women spoke of unwanted touching and very inappropriate remarks made to them by Herb Walker. It is a shame that the named secretary fired for sexual harrasment had to get raked over the coals while Herb Walker gets away smelling like a rose. In addition, it is obvious to me that Herb Walker released his "resignation" letter to the press himself, how else could it have become public so fast. I know the State Attorneys Office would not have released it. And I seriously doubt the Miami Herald could get through all the red tape associated with the Freedom of Information Act. This is dredful, and Herb Walker should have to reap the ramifications of his actions.

Your points make a lot more sense than the Herald article. It is a shame that this man was allowed to walk like that. What do you expect? It's still a boys club inspite of Fernandez-Rundle. Bravo to the women for standing up for their rights.

However I'm not going to justify Herb Walker's actions. And I'm certainly not going to say two wrongs make a right.

But there is another individual in the office, higher up in the chain of command who is Caucasian. And everyone in that office knows that he is another sexual harassment lawsuit waiting to happen if someone were brave enough to go forward on him.

While he may not engage in the touching, he engages in inappropriate remarks and it is said he promotes the "eye candy" just so he can have something nice to look at.

Yet no one dares to stand against this individual or speak up. He is truly "one of the boys" because African-Americans are regularly thrown under the bus in that office far more quickly than their Caucasian counterparts and its obvious.

(Note the secretary that was fired for a "hint of sexual harassment" was an African-American female. But there are Caucasian lesbian staff working in the office that have made worse comments and no one has ever moved for their ouster.)

This is unbelievable. How can this go on? Fernandez Rundle must be aware of these situations.

The only problem with using blogs as a source of information is the presumption the information provided is honest and accurate when that is not always the case. I'm addressing the 12/27 comment relating to sexual harassment issues. While I don't pretend to know who the individual is that the writer refers to, I do know that the writer simply lacks the facts when it was written "another individual in the office, higher up in the chain of command who is Caucasian...it is said he promotes the "eye candy" just so he can have something nice to look at." FACT--- No promotion is the decision of any single individual. Promotions are decided by a committee, not an individual. A single vote is but a single vote, not a majority. It makes me wonder about the truth/knowledge of any of the comments made.

Additionally, didn't the writer notice that attorney Antonio H. Jimenez was also fired? I think we should note for accuracy sake that Mr. Jimenez is Hispanic, not African-American. Therefore, I question the accuracy of the statement "...African-Americans are regularly thrown under the bus in that office far more quickly than their Caucasian counterparts and its obvious." Two different inaccuracies certainly make me question the facts of what was written by this individual. I think there is another agenda at play, a personal agenda perhaps. Again, I think this points out the problem of using gossip and half truths as a source of information. Me, I like all the whole truth myself.
