Legislator Who Sponsored Confederate License Plate Bill also Sponsors Bill for Renaming Street in Honor of MLK
Saturday, March 01, 2008
Rep. Donald Brown, the legislator who submitted the bill in support of a confederate flag license plate, also submitted legislation to rename a portion of Highway 90 after Martin Luther King. That is an insult to the legacy of King and all people who have fought for civil rights and equality.
The fact that this legislator feels comfortable enough to submit such legislation speaks to the lackadaisical attitude of blacks and disrespect for blacks and minorities by political leaders in Florida. There should have been an immediate uproar among civil rights advocates.
Rep. Brown obviously wants to make a statement during his final term in the House. I'm not so sure what that statement is but it definitely won't be good.
