Obama One Step Closer to Becoming President of the United States
Friday, June 06, 2008
It's been almost 72 hours since Senator Barack Obama became the presumptive nominee for the Democratic Party...Senator John McCain ripped off Obama's theme and Senator Hillary Obama took her toys home without conceding to Obama.
Yes, it's been a wild 72 hours. Barack and Michelle Obama lovingly gave each other dap on international television and CNN's Anderson Cooper wants to be Donna Brazile's boo. If that's how the general election phase began, one can only imagine what we're in for over the next five months.
As the excitement of the possibility of a black POTUS reached a fever pitch, Barack Obama as the new leader of the DNC proclaimed that contributions from lobbyists would not be accepted. That's a bold move and flips the script back to the people to decide who our leaders are. More important, perhaps 'the people' will really monitor what's going on in DC, Tallahassee and right here in South Florida. Every one won't like this CHANGE, but deal with it.
Oh yeah, the local superdelegates who were ardent Hillary Clinton supporters (Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, Kendrick Meek and Alcee Hastings)sent a press release proclaiming their support for Obama. Earlier reports indicated Congressman Hastings would boycott the Democratic Convention because of the seating of the Florida delegates with ½ vote; let's hope the congressman has changed his mind.
The failure of Hillary Clinton's campaign will be dissected by broadcast and print media, political pundits and bloggers. Senator Clinton is scheduled to give her concession speech tomorrow at noon. Her secret talks with Senator Obama have kept folks abuzz. Now she must figure out how to graciously display enthusiasm for support of Obama and to move toward unity in a divided Democratic Party.
