INTERACTIVE EVENT FEATURED COOKING & MIXOLOGY DEMONSTRATION AS TRACY WILSON MOURNING AND FRIENDS WELCOMED FUTURE LADY BUGS
MIAMI, FL (March 18, 2009) Gearing up for another successful year, the Honey Shine Mentoring Program held its first Lady Bug recruitment event for 2009 at Casa de Korge in Pinecrest, Florida this past Friday, March 13th. Tracy Wilson Mourning, founder of the Honey Shine Mentoring Program, was joined by friends Irene Korge, Norma Jean Abraham, Ada Armas, Bobbie Van der Vlught, and Kim Wood to host the exclusive cooking and mixology demonstration which nearly 100 women attended. This event was the first of several that will be held this year in an effort to recruit new Honey Shine Members (a.k.a. Lady Bugs).
Host members and guests were treated to a culinary demonstration led by renowned Chef Douglas Rodriguez of Miami Beach's Ola Restaurant. The godfather of Nuevo Latino cuisine shared the art to building his famed ceviche and paella dishes, while samples were passed around the house. Ola's restaurant-style mojitos (classic and passion fruit) demonstrations with Kilo Kai spiced rum got the afternoon going as guests arrived.
The Honey Shine Mentoring Program works to empower young girls with the tools they need to shine as women. Recruiting Lady Bugs is an important part of building the strong base these young girls rely upon for support and growth, and Mourning works to build the programs member base every year. More than 21 women signed up to become 2009 Lady Bugs, raising over $8,000 for the program. By becoming a Lady Bug, all donations go toward sponsoring young girls to attend Honey Shines bi-weekly workshops, as well as Camp Honey Shine which has now grown into a full four-week day camp.
We need as many strong and successful women that we can get to join Honey Shine and give these young girls more mentors to look up to and want to become, said Mourning. I'm extremely pleased with how our mentoring program continues to grow and that we can continue to brighten the futures of these young girls.
There are currently more than 160 Honey Bugs enrolled in the Honey Shine Mentoring program, with an average of 85 girls who participate in the bi-weekly workshops. Honey Shine's volunteer program has grown tremendously with a current average of 30 volunteers who come out and participate in the workshops.
