Don't sleep on this! Avoid higher vehicle registration fees and renew by Sept. 1

This message comes from Rep. Alan Williams who serves residenta in Leon and Gadsden Counties but there's no reason all Floridians shouldn't follow this advice. Good lookin out by Rep. Williams!

REPRESENTATIVE ALAN WILLIAMS
ENCOURAGES DISTRICT 8 CONSTITUENTS
TO AVOID HIGHER VEHICLE REGISTRATION FEES & RENEW BY SEPTEMBER 1

TALLAHASSEE --- During the 2009 legislative session, lawmakers approved an increase in thecost of renewing vehicle registrations and driver licenses.  I voted against this year’s budget that raises vehicle tag fees and the cost of driver license renewals.

The fee increases for renewing vehicle registrations varies by the weight of the vehicle.  The cost of renewing a driver license will increase from $20 to $48 and the tax collector’s service fee for processing driver’s license transactions will increase from $5.25 to $6.25.

Representative Williams encourages citizens to take advantage of a provision of state law that allows vehicle owners to renew their tags up to three months before the tags expire. Residents can save a little by renewing their tags before September 1 by paying the current fee. Waiting until after September 1 means drivers will have to pay the new and increased rate. And to really lock in savings, renew for a two-year period and pay the current fee rate for both years, which doubles the savings.

The benefit of early-renewal is similar for driver's license renewals.  Representative Williams urges motorists whose driver licenses expire this year or in 2010 to renew before September 1. The renewal will extend licenses by eight years.
