Revenue from red-light cameras to bolster local government budgets
Tuesday, December 28, 2010
Drivers in Miami-Dade County had better beware that local governments are implementing red-light cameras to ticket drivers that commit traffic infractions. No worries about a police officer turning on his siren and pulling you over; a picture of the car committing the infraction will be sent to the owner, not necessarily the driver, along with a bill for $158.
All of this is being done in the name of public safety but the government anticipates receiving $75 of the $158 penalty. Pay higher taxes or pay penalties but you will pay.
Surely there will be challenges to these cameras and the tickets. Stay tuned.
