Miami's black community will celebrate the life of another local legend as political activist and commentator Richard 'Ricky' Thomas has transitioned. He was the voice of Miami's black community for more than 30 years through his commentary in the Miami Times and on 1490 WMBM. Thomas, in collaboration with the late Charles Hadley was a force to be reckoned with their 'Get Out The Vote' initiative --- Operation Big Vote.

A viewing and memorial service was held on Friday, August 5, at Mount Hermon AME in Miami Gardens. The funeral is 1 p.m. today at Mount Hermon. Range Funeral Home is officiating.

Thomas ended his commentaries with his signature quote: "God is good...all the time. This...is...Ricky Thomas."

Thank you for all you did for people in Miami, Mr. Thomas. You are appreciated. Rest in peace.
