Miami Workers Center's Solidarity Statement in support of Occupy Miami
Tuesday, October 18, 2011
Yesterday, we, along with 15 other community groups and unions, signed a solidarity statement in support of Occupy Miami. Occupy Miami is a part of the international movement sparked by Occupy Wall Street that is standing up to corporate greed, and an unfair concentration of wealth in the hands of a few.
The city of Miami with all its high rise condo's and broken down slum housing, clearly depicts the economic disparities that exist throughout the country and the world. We are home to the richest and poorest zip codes in the United States.
Miami Workers Center, and our allies*, have been working to address these disparities for over a decade: working for economic justice and opportunity for low-income people, organizing workers to demand and win rights, building a movement for fair housing, fighting for migrant rights, and uniting people across neighborhood and ethnicity to end systemic racism.
We are the 99%.
We are inspired by the Occupy movement, and the dedication of Occupy Miami who have been holding it down in the rain since Saturday.

In Solidarity,
