by Andrea Robinson

MIAMI – Thousands of Hispanic, Caribbean and African-American voters across Florida will head to polling precincts starting Saturday to usher in Souls to the Polls Weekend, as the state’s Early Voting period begins.

Clergy, union members, activists and civic leaders in several parts of the state are leading the effort, dubbed Operation Lemonade. These leaders say they will make sure crowds of minorities; women and young adults are at the precincts in a show of force. Some activists say organizations had to work triple time in the last two months to boost registration numbers because of state legislation that toughened the requirements and penalties for third-party organizations that register new voters.

Local rapper fatally shot at Liberty City car wash

Last night local rapper Robert Labranche AKA Chowtime AKA Bizzle, was fatally shot at a car wash and window tinting business on northwest 54th street between 7th and 8th avenues.

Details are sketchy but it appears Labranche may have been involved in an argument when he was shot. He had two young children with him but they did not witness the actual shooting.

A crowd gathered after the incident and some emotional relatives had to be physically restrained.

There are several performance videos of Labranche online as well as a mugshot showing previous legal troubles. Apparently well known in the local rap game, Twitter was abuzz with condolences about the rapper.

May I Help You?

I want to pose a simple question. Can’t we be open to helping someone else without negative, nasty dramatic performances?  We are in a movement of time where many of us have found ourselves having to seek and obtain help from friends, family and in some cases governmental agencies.  From time to time, assistance from one hand may not be sufficient so we are forced to seek aid from another hand.  Often we are forced to go back to one hand multiple times. When you are accustomed to working hard and getting it done – the mere asking can be a tremendous weight.  When you are positioned to ask for help because you were obedient to a move of faith – the mere asking can be an invitation to scorn.
