City of Miami District 5 Candidates Debate Tomorrow




The candidates for the City of Miami, District 5 Commission seat currently held by Michelle Spence-Jones, will meet in their first public debate on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, 7:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. at Legion Park Meeting Hall, 6447 NE 7th Ave, Miami, FL 33138.

The event is sponsored by the Belle Meade Homeowners Association and is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

If you live in District 5 you should attend this event. If you don't live in District 5 but live in Miami-Dade County, you should attend also.

The candidates for the District 5 seat are: Jacqui Colyer; Richard Dunn; Keon Hardemon; and Robert Malone, Jr.

Catalyst Miami Parent Leadership Training Institute

If you want to maximize your leadership skills while learning to advocate on behalf of your children and our community, you should register for the Catalyst Miami Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI). This FREE 22-week program includes all materials, dinner, childcare, a parallel age appropriate Child Leadership Training Institute (CLTI)  for school-aged children up to 5th grade and a chance to travel to Tallahassee for Miami-Dade Days.

Applications are being accepted for parents, children, and child advocates.  Our family leadership program encompasses the Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) for adults and the Children's Leadership Training Institute (CLTI) for students in grades K-5.  
 
Who Can Join: Parents, guardians, child advocates, working professionals, community leaders, concerned residents...anyone interested in making a difference in the lives of children!  Do you know someone who would benefit or be interested in joining?  Refer them!  
 
How to Join: Contact Gina Ha at 305-576-5001, ext 41 for additional information. Children attending the program with a parent or guardian will automatically be enrolled in CLTI, a parallel leadership program that uses a multiple-intelligence based curriculum to maximize learning.

‘American Girl Fashion Show’ Looking For Models For South Florida Show

The Embrace Girls Foundation, Inc., will be holding auditions for their 1st Annual American Girl Fashion Show, inspired by the American Girl dolls. They are looking for real life Addys and Kirstens to model in their show on December 8, 2013. The show will benefit Embrace Girl Power! After School Programs & Camps.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013, 5:00pm - 7:00pm, Shula's Hotel & Golf Club, 6842 Main Street, 2nd Floor Mezzanine, Miami, Lakes, FL 33014

A limited number of girls who exhibit poise, confidence and a great smile will be selected to participate in this highly anticipated event for South Florida girls.  Potential models should be 4-13 years old and enjoy walking the runway or on stage in front of an audience. 

Here's what potential models need to know:

  • Bring a current non-professional 4x6 or 5x7 photo. (Photos will not be returned).
  • Bring the application fee, if chosen for the fashion show. $25.00 cash or check only. 
  • Models must be able to attend scheduled orientation, rehearsals and fittings as well as fundraise by selling tickets and American Girl Magazine ads for the souvenir book.
  • Models may be required to supply footwear and accessories depending on their  costume.
  • The American Girl Dolls are diverse; therefore, girls of all races and cultures are encouraged to apply to participate
