Caught on Tape: Miami Gardens police behaving badly
Thursday, November 21, 2013
A disturbing article in the Miami Herald reports City of Miami Gardens Police harassing illegally arresting residents. Owner of the 207 Quick Stop, 3185 NW 207 Street, Alex Saleh, in the area installed video cameras that caught the officers in the act. Officers have even arrested one of Saleh's employees over 60 times for trespassing at the store --- their place of employment. One at aleast one occasion, a clerk was arrested for trespassing at the store while he was stocking shelves. Really?
It will be difficult for many people to believe such blatant travesties of justice take place in 2013 but it is very real. The storeowner is to be commended for being courageous enough to proceed with reporting the police officers. Mayor Oliver Gilbert and the City Council must deal with this with all deliberate speed. With the City already in the news for the number of shootings in the area, this situation likely will not go away quietly.
