WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) was appointed to the House Higher Education Subcommittee. The Subcommittee oversees federal policy on U.S. colleges and universities and is part of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, on which Congresswoman Wilson also serves.
“Higher education is not only about empowering our economy—it’s also about enriching lives,” said Congresswoman Wilson. “I am deeply honored and ready to get to work to make college more affordable and accessible for the nation.”
A longtime educator and former member of the Miami-Dade County School Board, Congresswoman Wilson has been a champion for college and university students as a Member of Congress. Congresswoman Wilson introduced the Student Loan Fairness Act with Congressmember Karen Bass of California earlier this year and will soon announce a Student Loan Borrowers’ Bill of Rights to ensure that America’s students benefit from basic consumer protections. Congresswoman Wilson proudly represents several institutions of higher education including Florida International University, Florida Memorial University, and Miami-Dade College in Florida’s 24th District.
