CALL TO ACTION: Contact your legislator. MDCPS could lose $20 million!
Thursday, March 03, 2016
The K-12 education budget proposed this past Sunday during House and Senate Conference Committee negotiations would provide only a 1% increase in per-pupil funding over last year. Florida PTA's call to action has asked all of us to contact the House and Senate leadership to request that they reject this agreement, and to insist that they fund K-12 education at the levels that the Governor, the House, and the Senate themselves proposed just a few weeks ago.
Should this Conference Committee agreement pass, the impact to Miami-Dade County Public Schools would be devastating. Specifically, the agreement provides $20 million less to our students and our schools than the budget bill the Senate passed on February 11, and $17.1 million less than the House budget bill, also passed on February 11.
MIAMI-DADE'S LOSS OF $20 MILLION WOULD PURCHASE AN ADDITIONAL 307 TEACHERS.
Time is of the essence here, as budget discussions will be closed out shortly. Please act immediately not only by responding to Florida PTA's call to action, but also by emailing or--preferably--phoning the members of the Dade Delegation who serve as at-large members of the conference committee.
