Juvenile Justice in Miami Dade

The 11th Circuit  Juvenile Justice Board, in collaboration with the Children's Trust and the University of Miami organized an event on the current state of juvenile justice in Miami-Dade on October 2nd, 2009. The goal was to develop a juvenile justice strategic plan and legislative agenda for dismantling the pipeline in our community.

The featured speaker was Adora Obi Nweze, President Florida State Conference NAACP.

A conversation with Edwidge Danticat

Local author Edwidge Danticat, a recent MacArthur ``Genius Award'' winner, spoke at a Florida International University on Sept 30th, 2009.

The Haitian-born author, who received the prestigious award that comes with a prize of $500,000, spoke at an event of the Honors College at the Mary Ann Wolfe Theater on the Biscayne Bay Campus. ``A Conversation with Danticat'' was free and open to the public. Danticat discussed her work, which focuses primarily on Haiti and Haitian culture. [More]
