Lakeland, Florida medical doctor Jeffrey Epstein is tackled by Orlando Police as he has a meltdown at Orlando International Airport.

Jeffrey Epstein, a white medical doctor based in Lakeland, Florida acted a complete fool at the American Airlines counter at Orlando International Airport on August 16, 2018. After several minutes of berating the police officers who arrived to handle the situation, Epstein was tackled to the ground as he resisted arrest. Epstein went on to say he was being treated like an f&*%king black person.

When confronted by the media after he was released on bail, Epstein came up with a lame story about making the racial comment to make a point about how black people are treated by the police. Really? That’s the best he could do. Wow. Epstein, 59, described himself as a conservative Republican and a Trump guy. A Trump guy? Hmmm… Think on that for a moment. I guess we shouldn’t expect him to take a knee in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick and NFL players, now should we? 

Epstein lied. The police did not treat him like a Black person. He wasn’t beat up or shot. White privilege is real.

On Sunday, May 6, 2018, the King of Clubs of Greater Miami, Incorporated hosted their 32nd Annual Scholarship/Awards Banquet at the Doubletree Grand Hotel Biscayne in Downtown Miami. Community matriarch Nancy Dawkins was recognized for her many years of service to the community and 16 Miami-Dade County Public Schools graduating seniors were awarded scholarships as they continue their academic journey to colleges and universities locally and throughout the nation.

Social media was abuzz today as a video, posted on Facebook, showed a man face down on the ground being handcuffed by a City of Miami cop. As other cops gather, one officer, from a running position, kicks the suspect in the head.  As clear as day, a compliant, handcuffed person is on the ground and kicked in the head. The officer obviously didn't know he was being recorded on video. Don't they wear body cams? The fact that the officer felt comfortable enough to inflict brutality on the suspect is quite disturbing. This incident occurred this morning at the Culmer Place Apartments in Overtown.

As quickly as that video circulated, City of Miami Chief of Police, Jorge Colina posted a tweet indicating the video had been reviewed and the officer had been relieved of duty. Before we have a Kumbaya moment, understand that the police union is involved and they will protect their members. The State Attorney's Office has been contacted about this incident and the case must take its course. The video is so clear that it's challenging to even think of a defense. Hopefully, the suspect gets a great lawyer and sues the City and that officer.

We are still awaiting details on everyone involved. A lot of things happen behind the scene so #STAYwoke.

Robin Cross (Facebook)

WSVN-TV Ch. 7 producer Robin Cross was captured on video engaged in a spat with her neighbor, Robert Fenton. Cross drops the f-bomb several times and drops the n-bomb in referring to Fenton's son's girlfriend who is Black. Cross and the Fentons are white. This incident occurred in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

The younger Fenton is an attorney. He contacted WSVN with the video and an explanation of what transpired. He also demanded Cross be fired. After several days, it appears that Cross has been suspended (probably with pay) but not fired. Her racism is clearly on display. Saying the word "nigger" out loud in public appears to have been a liberating experience for her. 

Ch. 7 needs to do the right thing and terminate her employment now. Her future work product will not be perceived as objective. Her interaction with non-white fellow employees or subordinates will be strained at best. The leadership of the station will be considered racist also. The fact that Cross is still employed does not bode well for WSVN. The video is not well lit but Cross's words are loud and clear. Watch the video and judge for yourself.

It's very disappointing that WSVN has not already reported this story, condemned Cross's behavior and announced her termination. Bigoted folks like Cross are another reason why we must support Black media - newspapers, magazines, TV, radio and online.

James B. Wright continues his fight to remain on the ballot for City of Miami Gardens mayor.

There is a saying that you can't fight city hall. As quietly as it is being kept, James Wright, disqualified by the City of Miami Gardens in its mayoral race, is having none of that. Wright continues his fight today as he seeks to remain on the ballot. 

Initial discussion, on social media, of Wright's disqualification due to his returned check  led many to believe the check for his qualifying fee was returned due to insufficient funds. According to correspondence from the City to Wright, the check was returned because the account number could not be found. According to Wright’s bank, the check was never submitted for deposit.

City of Miami Gardens Clerk Ronetta Taylor notified Wright on June 20, 2016 that his check was returned and since it was after the qualifying period, he was disqualified. Wright submitted the check on the afternoon of June 1, 2016. Qualifying closed on the following day, June 2. 

Wright takes issue with the lapse in time between the date of submission of his qualifying documentation, including his check, and the notification of disqualification. Wright also asserts that City procedures were not followed when he submitted his qualifying documents. The City typically escorts a candidate to its finance area where the availability of funds in a candidate's account is determined on the spot. Wright notes a candidate for one of the council seats was notified that funds were not available in his account. That candidate opened his campaign account and filed his qualifying documents on the same day, the funds would not be available until the next day. That individual was not disqualified by the City Clerk. 

Well-known elections law attorney, J.C. Planas, has been hired to defend the City of Miami Gardens. Should the City prevail, there is evidence of change needed in the elections qualifying period, process and procedures. Should Wright prevail, this situation also warrants investigation of possible violation of established procedures. The City of Miami Gardens did not respond to requests for comment for this article. McDonald's ABFF and Barbershop: The Next Cut film director, Malcolm D. Lee are excited to return with this national video competition for rising filmmakers for the second year! McDonald's challenges you to create a 90-second film that illustrates McDonald's 365Black mantra, "Deeply Rooted in Your Community." Submissions will be critiqued on creativity, implementation of concept and quality.

Three finalists will be selected to attend the festival, screen their story before the festival audience, where one winner will be selected. In addition, finalists will have an exclusive opportunity to experience a mentor session with critically-acclaimed film director Malcolm D. Lee (Barbershop: The Next Cut, The Best Man Holiday and The Best Man).

The following provides general submission information for the McDonald's Lovin' Video Competition:

• Video must not exceed 90 seconds in length.
• Video must not contain material that violates or infringes another's rights, including but not limited to privacy, publicity or intellectual property rights, or constitute copyright infringement.

Last night's premiere of Miles Ahead at the Writers Guild Theater in Los Angeles, sponsored by Maestro Dobel Tequila, brought out celeb supporters of Don Cheadle who wrote, starred and directed the Miles Davis Biopic.

Actor and artist Malcolm-Jamal Warner stopped by HuffPost Live and shared his thoughts on the recent controversial Ebony cover displaying a shattered picture of ‘The Cosby Show’ cast.

Warner: “Actually, I [still] need to read the article. I have not read the article because just the cover, I didn’t really feel like dealing with it yet. But... I had so many social media comments from the Black audience, from Ebony’s target audience, who are very disappointed with that cover, and very disappointed in Ebony as one of the voices of the Black community to put that cover out there.”

When asked if he is disappointed in Ebony for the cover, Warner replied:

Warner: “Yes, I am… It’s contributing to the stereotypical image that society has of the broken Black family, the shattered Black family. And to take something that for 20, 30 years has been what we have held up as the Black family that we all want to aspire to, in terms of the love that we don’t see when we see Black families in the media, to take that image and to shatter it, it’s disappointing to a lot of us.”

Host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani also asked Warner if there can be a divorce between Cosby, the man, and Cosby’s character on the sitcom.

Warner: “I say yes to your question because based on the social media comments that I get and I see, a lot of the audience has been able to do that and are doing that… I would [also] love to think so because when we talk about Woody Allen, we don’t talk about his controversy. When we talk about Roman Polanski now, it’s like that’s no longer part of the conversation. So if that’s how it goes, then I hope the same can come of ‘The Cosby Show.’”
